Ouachita School District is currently taking applications for:

Special Education Paraprofessional

  • High school diploma or GED and one of the following:

    • Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education In Arkansas, 60 semester credit hours at a regionally accredited institution of higher education are required. -or-

    • Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree -or-

    • Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness). In Arkansas, the formal test accepted is the Educational Testing Services (ETS) Parapro Assessment” and applicants must obtain a passing score of 457. A Child Development Associate (CDA) certification and hours of training are not acceptable substitutions for this requirement.

  • Ability to lift student

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Completion of any required training necessary for the position (personal care certification already obtained is preferred)


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completed Personal Care Training 

  • Experience working with individuals with disabilities

  • Arkansas Paraprofessional training modules completed



  • Provide one on one personal care for specific student needs including, but not limited to:  

    • Redirecting inappropriate behaviors of student in classrooms

    • Preparing food for and/or feeding student

    • Assist with physical movement of student

    • Diapering and toileting student

    • Escorting student to transitioning classrooms

    • Chaperoning student outings

    • Supervising student during loading and unloading transportation 

  • Promote a safe and productive learning environment for student, ensuring that student needs are met by communicating with other staff about student needs

  • Monitor and document personal care daily notes

  • Maintain confidentiality regarding students and the educational setting at all times

  • Other duties as assigned
